Working principle of gun drilling tools--drill bit

   Presently, there are more and more deep hole drilling parts, and only through the traditional processing method---long twist drill, when drilling to the 1 to 2 times drilling hole diameter length, you have to draw back the tooling to remove the chip. But under such kind of circumstance, the processing precision, surface roughness, processing efficiency and processing quality are all difficult to ensure. And always easy to broke the drill bit because of chips. Consequently, long draw ratio deep hole drilling is big question for many industry. And gun drilling has successful solve this question.

 Deep hole drilling gets its name from drilling the gun barrel, which  mainly use to drill the hole diameter from 2mm to 20mm, and its a high processing efficiency tooling. And for the deep hole drilling tool with high cutting efficiency, good precision and long life services advantages, and it has apply to automobile industry, engine manufacturing, mold mining and petro machinery, medical equipment, hydraulic machine etc.

gun drills    A professional deep hole drilling system, which is consist of deep hole drilling machine, single-blade or double-blade gun drilling tool, and high pressure coolant system. The drill shank of the gun drill is fixed on the machine spindle, the drill bit enter the workpiece surface through the guide hole or guide sleeve, when drilling, the drill bits itself has a guide function and ensure the cutting precision. And the cooling oil enter from the hole of the drilling tool and remove the chips, also cool and lubricate the drill bit, thus we can get a good surface finishing and processing quality. 

Structure of gun drill There are three part of gun drill: drill bit, drill stem and drill shank.

Drill bit
  Drill bit is an very important part in
gun drilling tools, the unique structure of drill bit, which ensures the good processing procedure and guide the drilling. With one time drilling, we can get a good precision hole. There are basic angle for the drill bit, according to the material of the processed workpiece, you can choose the most proper angle to balance the cutting force and chip removing, and delivery the cutting force to the supporter to get a good straightness and concentricity. The drill bit is a little higher than the drill shank, which will make sure the drill shank won’t rub the inside hole wall and get a good roughness. According to the different processing requirement, there are 6 kinds of drill bit:

R1 type: apply for carbon steel, stainless steel and Al materials. When drilling, the squeezing action of the tooling surface is min. .
R2 type: apply for reaming and non-steel metal cutting.
R3 type: for this type, it can control the processing dimension and surface finishing.
R4 type: apply for cross hole,blind hole and expanding hole.

R6 type: use along with reamer, which can expand the hole and with good guidance.

R9 type: not connecting with shoulder, which can control the processing dimension more flexible.
